Proof of DC Vehicle Inspection

To title or register a vehicle, you must provide at least one primary source document, as listed below, to satisfy proof of DC vehicle inspection.

Primary Sources (one required) - must be original:

New Car

• Manufacture's Certificate of Origin (i.e., title for new vehicles). This document exempts vehicles from inspection unless vehicle is commercial or for hire.

Used Car

• DC inspection station report indicating vehicle "passed" .
• If your newly acquired vehicle has a DC inspection sticker which is still valid, you do not have to take the vehicle back through inspection prior to titling and registration.
