The Green Building Division at DCRA in serving its mission to protect the health, safety, economic interests and quality of life of residents, businesses and visitors in the District of Columbia by enforcing green and energy laws and regulations has taken on education of the profession and the public as a task toward this goal.
Below you will find information about events and trainings that we offer, as well as information about any events and trainings offered by other District agencies and private organizations that we believe would be useful to learn about green building and energy efficiency methods related to codes and laws in the District along with best practices that would exceed minimum compliance.
Green Code Compliance System (GCCS) Training
The training will focus on implementing the new GCCS for all projects required to use the 2013 DC Green Construction Code. There is no registration required, please join us on one of the following dates:

The training will focus on up-to-date understanding of the most current green building principles and practices and prepare attendees to take the LEED GA Exam. This seminar introduces participants to the 2012 International Green Construction Code. Participants will become familiar with the unique requirements of this code and learn to apply the critical concepts. The seminar addresses the development of the IgCC, how it regulates new construction, existing construction, multiple occupancy classifications and community development. Participants will participate in large group discussions, individual and small group case study activities. Seating is limited, and is offered on a first come first serve basis first to District staff, and will then be open to any interested party one week out from the date of the training. This course is designed to prepare you to take the LEED AP BD+C exam. The exam tests the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the design process, to support and encourage integrated design, and to streamline the application and certification process. You should also be familiar with the content of the U.S. Green Building Council®’s Website, usgbc.org, and GBCI’s website, gbci.org, including but not limited to LEED Project Registration, LEED Certification content, and the purpose of LEED Online.
The LEED AP BD+C credential suits professionals with expertise in the design and construction phases of green buildings, serving the commercial, residential, education and healthcare sectors. Seating is limited, and is offered on a first come first serve basis first to District staff, and will then be open to any interested party one week out from the date of the training. DCRA hosts an annual Green Building Symposium to educate the building profession and public on topics related to green building and energy efficiency best practices, laws and regulations, and compliance mechanisms to have a successful construction project in the District. Topics include: Green Construction Code, Energy Conservation Code, Green Building Act, Green Area Ratio, benchmarking and more.
To provide educational opportunities to DCRA staff, sister agency staff in the District and interested third parties, DCRA offers technical educational sessions free of charge several times per year. Topics cover the ICC Model Codes, ASHRAE Standards, LEED, and others. Courses are targeted in difficulty and content toward individuals working in the green and energy building industries.

Public training sessions related to the recently finalized 2013 Rule on Stormwater Management and Soil Erosion and Sediment Control (2013 SW Rule) and the 2013 Stormwater Management Guidebook (2013 SWMG), which provides technical guidance on how to comply with the rule. DDOE is committed to ensuring that interested stakeholders have the opportunity to participate in training sessions and will continue to add to this initial schedule based on stakeholder and public interest in additional trainings.
Office of Planning and the District Department of the Environment are offering free training seminars on the GAR. Each seminar provides an overview of the GAR, the plan submittal process, the GAR Guidebook, and the role of the Certified Landscape Expert.
