District’s Unemployment Rate at 7.7 Percent

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services reported today that the preliminary January job estimates show a decrease of 10,600 jobs, for a total of 753,400 jobs in the District. The private sector decreased by 9,600 jobs, while the public sector payrolls decreased by 1,000 jobs. The numbers are drawn from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) through its monthly survey of the District of Columbia’s employers.
