Road Test Scheduling Requirements

On the day of your test, go to the DMV commercial road test service location. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time with a CDL licensed driver 21 years of age or older that holds the same or greater CDL class and endorsements that you are testing for. You must bring your valid CDL learner permit and valid regular driver license, along with your valid DOT card. Bring a vehicle that meets the requirements for the Class license you are testing for, along with the valid registration and insurance.

Online Appointment Scheduling Four-Step Overview

  1. Enter the driver license number (DLN) that appears on your CDL learner permit, and your personal information.
    • Select an appointment date and time.
      • Review the selected appointment date, time, and location.
        • Print the confirmation page for your records.

Failure to cancel a scheduled road test at least two business days prior to your test will result in a $30 cancellation fee. This fee will be collected the next time you renew your license, update your address, or complete another license-related transaction. This fee will not be charged if you cancel your road test prior to two business days of the test.

Your road test may be cancelled for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The examiner believes he or she would have trouble reaching the brake or otherwise stopping the test vehicle in an emergency.
    • There is inclement weather or other circumstances beyond DMV's control that make the road test dangerous.
      • You or your vehicle has not met all of the road test requirements.

If your road test is cancelled or to reschedule your appointment, call our customer service office at 311 or (202) 737-4404 or visit the road test appointment scheduling information page to learn more about scheduling an appointment.
