DC DMV Road Test Now Offered by Third Party for Non-Commercial Driver License

Monday, July 15, 2013

The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) has certified Dexterity Driving School to administer the road test. Dexterity manages its scheduling and can set its own fees up to $100. There may be additional fees to use their vehicle.

The road test requirements are the same whether a person takes the road test with DC DMV personnel or the third party tester. The road test begins and ends at the DC DMV road test facility, and the tests will take place during regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 8:15am – 4pm. Additionally, the third party testers will use the existing DC DMV routes and scoring sheet. Once the road test is completed, the individual will be processed by DC DMV employees.

All third party testers are trained and certified by DC DMV and are associated with an approved District driving school. Certified testers who provide classroom and on-the-road training to an individual are prohibited from also administering the road test to the same person.

Individuals who currently have an appointment with DC DMV and decide to use the third party tester are reminded to cancel their DC DMV appointment.
