Booted Vehicle

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPDC) and Department of Public Works (DPW) boot vehicles in the District of Columbia that have two or more delinquent parking tickets. A parking ticket becomes delinquent when the registered vehicle owner doesn't pay or contest the ticket within 60 calendar days after the ticket is issued (the day after the date on the ticket counts as Day 1). In addition, the fine doubles when a ticket becomes delinquent.

To release the boot, you must pay a boot fee and all outstanding parking tickets. Payments must be made with cash, money order, or credit card. No checks will be accepted. The registered vehicle owner may contest a parking ticket if it is not in default (older than 60 days) by going to Adjudication Services, for a walk-in hearing .

To avoid a boot, pay or contest parking tickets within 60 calendar days of the day you receive them. Once a vehicle has two or more delinquent parking tickets, it can be booted at any time.
