Residents are required to update changes in address within 5 days to keep their records current. The online change of address will allow you to change and update your address for your DC Driver License or Identification Card. In addition, we will update your vehicle(s) registered in the District of Columbia and mail you updated vehicle registration card(s). Residents can also complete a change of address when renewing their driver license, identification card, and/or vehicle(s) registration during the renewal online transactions. For vehicles with co-owners, the change of address will only be applicable to the primary owner. If there is a co-owner on the vehicle registration, that individual must apply for their own change of address if they have a driver license or identification card.
When changing your address online, be ready to provide your customer information, including a valid email address, full first and last name, date of birth, last five digits of SSN, old address, new address and driver license or identification card number.
In addition to the information listed above, there is a change of address fee and you must provide at least one Primary Source document to show your new address and satisfy proof of DC residency. Please go to the proof of residency which will give you the list of acceptable documents.
Note: Temporary Mailing addresses and P.O. Boxes are NOT ALLOWED during this transaction. Also, if you currently reside with someone else and do not have a Primary Source document in your name, you must visit a DMV service center to change your address and provide the necessary documentation.
In addition, we are unable to change addresses online on government or commercial tags. You must visit a DMV service center.
