Change of Address
This section provides information for change of residence or mailing address for your District of Columbia driver license, non- driver identification card and vehicle registration. In order to complete online DMV transactions, you must already have a current address on file with DMV.
NOTE: Temporary mailing addresses and/or P.O. Boxes are not allowed.
Residents are required to update changes in address within 5 days to keep their records current. You may change your address online, mail the necessary proof of residency documents to DMV or bring them to a DMV service center location. If you are not completing another transaction, such as renewing your driver license or vehicle registration, there is also a change of address fee. The address change will be applied to your driver license or identification card and your vehicle registrations. For vehicles with co-owners, the change of address will only be applicable to the primary owner. If there is a co-owner on the vehicle registration, that individual must apply for their own change of address, if applicable.
Failure to update your address with the DMV may result in an inability to send you inspection, license, vehicle registration renewals, ticket notices, license suspensions/revocations and other pertinent DMV documents. As a result, you may experience inconveniences and fees.
You must inform DMV of change in your address either by:
- Changing your address online
- Visiting in person at any DMV Service Location
- Mail proof of residency documents and fee to the following address:
DC DMV
Attn: Change of Address
PO Box 90120
Washington, DC 20090
