License and Identification Card Designations

DC DMV offers a number of distinct designations you can get on your license or identification card during a DC DMV transaction that will be reflected on your credential.

If you are an eligible, US citizen or permanent resident male between the ages of 18 and 26, DC DMV will automatically register you with the US Selective Service for military service (once you turn 26 years old, you are no longer eligible for selective service enrollment). More information on registering with the US Selective through DC DMV is available at the links below:

You may choose to opt out of registering with the US Selective Service through the DC DMV driver license application process. The waiver form to opt out of the automatic DC DMV process is available at the link below:

You may decide to become an organ and tissue donor (you may also make a tax deductible monetary donation to the DC Organ Donor registry). Information is available at the link below:

Effective June 26, 2018, if eligible, when you complete the driver license/identification card application, you will automatically be registered to vote (if you are eligible) unless you opt out. More information on voting and eligibility is available at District of Columbia Board of Elections at the link below:

You can select the Veteran designation (if you are eligible). DC DMV offers a special license designation to honorably discharged service members. More information is available at the link below:

DC DMV offers special designation indicators such as Autism, Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired, and Intellectual Disability that can be added to your credential during your transaction. Designations can be made by selecting the optional indicators on the Driver License/Identification Card Application. The Visually Impaired indicator is limited to the Identification Card, however all other special designation indicators are available for both the Driver License and Identification Card.
