Vehicle Registration Renewal

You will receive a renewal notice 60 days in advance of the expiration of your vehicle registration. You will receive your renewal notice by e-mail if you have provided DMV with your e-mail address. Click here to provide DMV with your e-mail address online. For last minute online renewals, DMV provides a temporary vehicle registration certificate that can be used for up to 45 days, until your registration sticker is received in the mail.

Save time and a trip to the DMV by renewing vehicle registration via one of the following convenient options. As of July 13, 2009, in-person registration renewals were eliminated.

A valid DC vehicle inspection is required to renew vehicle registration.

Note: If an individual is changing address during vehicle registration renewal, the change of address will only be applicable to the primary owner. If there is a co-owner on the vehicle registration, that individual must apply for their own change of address if they have a driver license or identification card.
