To obtain limousine and Luxury class sedan tags in the District of Columbia, you must complete the following steps.

Dealers must report any lost, stolen, or confiscated tags to the Metropolitan Police Department. Dealers can request replacements for such tags from DC DMV; any such requests must be accompanied by the police report. Dealers will have to pay a replacement fee for each replaced tag.

To ensure the safety of motorists, drivers must meet specific requirements, which include vision and medical standards.

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a breath alcohol analyzer connected to the ignition system of a vehicle. The driver must blow into the device, and if his or her breath alcohol level exceeds the accepted level set on the device, the vehicle will not start.

The IRP is an international highway program designed for the licensing of heavy (>26,000 pounds) commercial vehicles that travel in two or more jurisdictions. A jurisdiction may be a state, the District of Columbia, or a Canadian province.

IRP apportioned vehicles are vehicles registered under the International Registration Plan.

The cost of a DC DMV-awarded IRP apportioned tag will depend upon the percentage of miles traveled in each IRP jurisdiction, the registered combined gross weight of a vehicle, and other vehicle-specific criteria.
