Vehicle Inspection Fees

All Vehicle Inspection Fees are collected at the time of vehicle registration and registration renewal. Depending on your registration date, you may have already paid for the inspection or will pay upon your next renewal.

Note: You are eligible for two free re-inspections during the 20 calendar day period after failing inspection. You will be charged for a third re-inspection within the 20 day period.

New Vehicle Inspection Sticker
for Privately Owned / Not For Hire Vehicle
$10.00/4 years
If you have a 4 year inspection sticker, your inspection will expire on the last day of the month. You will be charged a late inspection fee immediately after expiration of inspection and each 30-day period (not to exceed $480)
Privately Owned / Not For Hire Vehicle $35.00/2 years
Taxis $70.00/1 year
Commercial Vehicles $35.00/1 year
Inspection Late Fee $20.00
Applies immediately after expiration of inspection and each 30-day period (not to exceed $480)
Reinspection Fee $35.00
You are eligible for two free re-inspections during the 20 calendar day period after failing inspection. If you do not get your vehicle re-inspected within the allotted 20 calendar days, on the 21st calendar day you will be charged a $20.00 inspection late fee. Once you bring your vehicle to be re-inspected, you will be also charged a $35.00 re-inspection fee.

Payment and Credit Cards

  • DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order or credit card.
  • DC Government accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards.
  • All outstanding debts (child support payments, outstanding tickets and dishonored checks) to the DC Government must be satisfied before completing most of your DMV transactions.
