Vehicle Safety Programs

Project Safe-Child

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) operates a federally funded Child Safety Seat Program designed to share information with parents and caregivers about the importance of proper use of child safety seats every time a child rides in a car. The program provides District residents with an infant or toddler, a free booster seat and information about properly installing and buckling children into their safety seats. It is a multi-agency/organization effort with DDOT, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Safe Kids Washington DC.

Check to Protect

DC DMV's mission is to promote the safe operation of motor vehicles and public safety. Millions of vehicles are recalled in the United States every year due to important safety issues. Recalls should be addressed quickly and should never be ignored. DC DMV encourages vehicle owners to get in the habit of checking for recalls and getting their vehicles repaired.

The Check To Protect Coalition continues its efforts to raise awareness about vehicle safety recalls and encourage free repairs. Check To Protect encourages every vehicle owner to check their vehicle’s recall status.
