Renew a Non-Driver ID Card

The DMV makes Non-Driver identification card renewal convenient by offering renewal services at DMV service centers and online. If you currently possess a DC REAL ID Non-Driver identification card (star located in upper right corner) or Limited Purpose Non-Driver identification card, you may renew your Non-Driver identification card online as long as you meet the other online requirements. Otherwise, you must visit a DMV Service Center. Please be sure to review the requirements for in-person renewals as the document requirements have changed, and you will be need to bring additional items with you.

You will receive a renewal notice 60 days in advance of the expiration of your Non-Driver identification card. You will receive your renewal notice by e-mail if you have provided DMV with your e-mail address. If necessary, you can update your address during the online Non-Driver identification card renewal process; however, please allow additional time for the address to be approved by DMV prior to processing the renewal online.  For last minute online renewals, DMV provides a temporary identification certificate that can be used for 45 days until your identification card is received in the mail.
