Paying DMV Fees
- DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order, credit card, contactless or digital wallet.
- Checks will be accepted up to 90 days from their issuance date, unless otherwise indicated on the check.
- DC Government accepts:
- MasterCard
- Visa
- American Express
- Discover
- Please note:
- Beginning December 15, 2025, the DC DMV will assess a 2.5% service fee to all debit and credit card transactions completed online, through the mobile app, and in-person. The agency’s online payment platforms will accept ACH/electronic check payments with no service fee added.
- All outstanding debts (child support payments, outstanding tickets and dishonored checks) to the DC Government must be satisfied before completing most of your DMV transactions.
