Clearing Stops on the National Driver Registry

If you have “stops” on your driver license that prevent you from renewing or reinstating it, you must clear them with whatever state entered them into your driver record in the National Driver Registry (NDR).

Typically, you will be placed on the NDR if your license has been suspended, cancelled, revoked, or denied because of a serious traffic violation.  If you have a record in the NDR, you must contact the State of Record or the department of motor vehicles of the state that has listed your license. You will have to pay all the fines and reinstatement fees before the state removes your license listing from the NDR.

If you reinstate your DC DMV driver license and pay the reinstatement fee, DC DMV will update your record in the NDR. Your record will be updated within 24 to 72 hours after you pay the reinstatement fee.
