District DMV Locations OPEN Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Based on the District’s assessment of the city in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, all District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) locations will be open on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Due to the weather and previous closures, late fees on ticket payments occurring Oct 29th - Nov 2nd will be waived; late inspection fees occurring on Oct 30th-Nov 2nd will be waived and vehicle impoundment storage fees occurring Oct 29th-Nov 2nd will be waived. The waiving of these various fees will ensure DMV is not overwhelmed with customers during the rest of this week.

Customers are encouraged to plan ahead as the days after all DC DMV locations are closed are usually busy. The following services are available online at www.dmv.dc.gov:

  • Renew vehicle registration (can only be done online or by mail; no in-person visit)
  • Obtain duplicate vehicle registration
  • Renew driver license
  • Obtain duplicate driver license
  • Renew identification card
  • Surrender tags
  • Obtain driver record
  • Pay tickets
  • Submit adjudication requests

DC DMV has more than 40 online services, enabling customers to “skip the in-person trip.”
