-In recognition of the Independence Day holiday, all DC DMV locations will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Regular business hours will resume on Friday, July 5.
Many of DC DMV's services will remain available online or via the agency's free mobile app.

-DC DMV will no longer prevent DC residents from applying for a new or renewed driver license because of failing to meet the requirements of the Clean Hands Law.

New Look, New Security, Same You! Credential

Effective Monday, July 17, 2023, the DC Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) will begin issuing a redesigned driver's license and identification card, incorporating iconic DC landmarks and imagery. Customers will continue to receive a temporary paper license or identification card that is valid for 45 days and the new credential will be mailed to the customer within 10-15 business days from issuance.This new design, along with the current central issuance process, incorporates updated security features to reduce fraud attempts.
