The Residential Parking Permit (RPP) allows any DC DMV-registered private vehicle, or vehicle with reciprocity, to be parked without restriction in the permit area of the vehicle’s registered address. To be eligible for an RPP, a resident’s street must be zoned for RPP.

*RPP fee is for the first vehicle only.
Note: Due to action by the DC Council, effective March 30, 2026, the annual fee for a one-year RPP sticker for the first vehicle registered at a legal mailing address will increase from $50 to $55, and additional fees will apply to other vehicles in that household.
The new fee structure that will apply to all eligible vehicles registered at a legal mailing address beginning March 30 is as follows:
- $55 for the first vehicle
- $80 for the second vehicle
- $115 for the third vehicle
- $175 for each vehicle beyond the first three vehicles
- $35 for Senior Citizens
An exemption exists for one resident 65 years of age or older per household. They will pay a $35 annual RPP fee for the first vehicle registered at a legal mailing address. The fee for each subsequent vehicle registered at a legal mailing address will be identical to the tiered rates noted above.
Payment and Credit Cards
- Residential Parking and Reciprocity Permits: non-refundable
- Accepted Payments: DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order, credit card, contactless or digital wallet.
- Accepted Credit Cards: DC Government accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards.
- Please note: On December 15, 2025, a 2.5% service fee was added to all debit and credit card transactions completed online, through the mobile app, and in-person. On April 19, 2026, due to a systematic issue with real-time authorization, the ACH/Electronic Check payment feature was temporarily removed from all DMV online and mobile app transactions. Our team is working with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) to resolve the matter.
- Outstanding Debts: all debts to DC Government must be satisfied before completing most of your DMV transactions (child support payments, outstanding tickets and dishonored checks).
