Payment and Credit Cards

• Accepted Payments: DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order, credit card contactless or digital wallet.
• Accepted Credit Cards: DC Government accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards.
• Please note: Beginning December 15, 2025, the DC DMV will assess a 2.5% service fee to all debit and credit card transactions completed online, through the mobile app, and in-person. The agency’s online payment platforms will accept ACH/electronic check payments with no service fee added.
• Outstanding Debts: all debts to DC Government must be satisfied before completing most of your DMV transactions (child support payments, outstanding tickets and dishonored checks).
