Payment and Credit Cards
- Accepted Payments: DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order, credit card, contactless, or digital wallet.
- Accepted Credit Cards: DC Government accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards.
- Please Note: On December 15, 2025, a 2.5% service fee was added to all debit and credit card transactions completed online, through the mobile app, and in-person. On April 19, 2026, due to a systematic issue with real-time authorization, the ACH/Electronic Check payment feature was temporarily removed from all DMV online and mobile app transactions. Our team is working with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) to resolve the matter.
- Outstanding Debts: all debts to DC Government must be satisfied before completing most of your DMV transactions (child support payments, outstanding tickets and dishonored checks).
