All Vehicle Inspection Fees are collected at the time of vehicle registration and registration renewal. Depending on your registration date, you may have already paid for the inspection or will pay upon your next renewal.
Note: You are eligible for two free re-inspections during the 20 calendar day period after failing inspection. You will be charged for a third re-inspection within the 20 day period.

| Reinspection Fee | $35.00 You are eligible for two free re-inspections during the 20 calendar day period after failing inspection. If you do not get your vehicle re-inspected within the allotted 20 calendar days, on the 21st calendar day you will be charged a $20.00 inspection late fee. Once you bring your vehicle to be re-inspected, you will be also charged a $35.00 re-inspection fee. |

Payment and Credit Cards
- Accepted Payments: DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order, credit card, contactless, or digital wallet.
- Accepted Credit Cards: DC Government accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards.
- Please Note: Beginning December 15, 2025, the DC DMV will assess a 2.5% service fee to all debit and credit card transactions completed online, through the mobile app, and in-person. The agency’s online payment platforms will accept ACH/electronic check payments with no service fee added.
- Outstanding Debts: all debts to DC Government must be satisfied before completing most of your DMV transactions (child support payments, outstanding tickets and dishonored checks).
