In recognition of Independence Day, all DC DMV locations will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

On February 5, the Georgetown DMV Service Center experienced a significant water main break. Due to flooding impacts, the Georgetown DMV Service Center will remain closed to the public until further notice. DC DMV's services will remain available at our other locations, online and via our mobile app.

Due to a systematic issue with real-time authorization, the ACH/Electronic Check payment feature has been temporarily removed from all DMV online and mobile app transactions. Our team is working with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) to resolve the matter. Contactless, credit/debit card, cash, and check payments continue to be accepted in person.

Assistance for DC Residents Experiencing Homelessness

District Residents experiencing homelessness are eligible to receive a Non-Driver Identification Card free of charge or a for fee Driver’s License. Applicants must submit the required documentation to the DMV, including proof of identity and Social Security Number. In addition, applicants must provide a completed Homeless Services Proof of Residency Form, which can be obtained from a provider approved by the DC Department of Human Services (DHS). Information on locating an approved provider can be found on the DHS website. As long as the Homeless Services Proof of Residency Form is completed by an approved provider, proof of Identity and Social Security Number are provided, applicants will be eligible for a free ID.

For purposes of free ID, “Homelessness” is defined as lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including living in shelters, places not meant for human habitation, or being at imminent risk due to insufficient income or support networks.
