DC DMV is now offering District residents who have recently purchased a vehicle through a private sale the option to title and register the vehicle in the District through a hybrid internet/mail transaction.

Submit an online request for a private sale Title and Registration

Once you have successfully completed the application process and uploaded all required information, you will be required to mail your original Title to DC DMV at the addresses listed below. All mail sent via USPS must be sent certified mail. The Title may also be sent via Fedex, UPS, DHL, or other overnight service that can provide a tracking number.

Following notification of approval from DC DMV, you may complete the vehicle Title and Registration and submit payment.
