On February 5th, the Georgetown DMV Service Center experienced a significant water main break. Due to flooding impacts, the Georgetown DMV Service Center will remain closed to the public until further notice. 

Due to an unforeseen power outage, the Rhode Island DMV Service Center will be closed to the public on Saturday, February 7th.

DC DMV's services will remain available at our other locations, online and via our mobile app.

Lienholder Information—Repossession Procedures

Lienholders who repossess a vehicle must submit the following documents within 5 business days in person at any DC DMV Service Center, or by mail to the DC DMV Processing Center at 95 M St SW, Washington, DC 20024.

  • DC Title Application
  • DC Title
  • Odometer Statement
  • Lien Contract
  • Letter to owner advising defaulted payments/intent to sell
  • Condition Report of the vehicle(s)
  • Check or money order for payment

There will be a title fee for repossessions. View more information on the DC DMV Fees.

Note: The DC DMV will issue a title in the name of lienholder within 7 business days of receipt of the documentation.
