Lienholder Information—Repossession Procedures

Lienholders who repossess a vehicle must submit the following documents within 5 business days in person at any DC DMV Service Center, or by mail to the DC DMV Processing Center at 95 M St SW, Washington, DC 20024.

  • DC Title Application
  • DC Title
  • Odometer Statement
  • Lien Contract
  • Letter to owner advising defaulted payments/intent to sell
  • Condition Report of the vehicle(s)
  • Check or money order for payment

There will be a title fee for repossessions. View more information on the DC DMV Fees.

Note: The DC DMV will issue a title in the name of lienholder within 7 business days of receipt of the documentation.
