District DMV and OCTO Launch Mobile Initiative

Monday, October 7, 2013

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) are making it easier for customers to “Skip the Trip” and perform DC DMV transactions using their mobile and tablet devices. Three agency transactions: driver license renewal, identification card renewal, and vehicle registration renewal are mobile ready services designed for smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.

DC DMV and OCTO worked to optimize these services in a secure environment and allow customers to make payments for these transactions using their credit card. “DC DMV is pleased to have collaborated with OCTO to produce these three mobile ready transactions, which will greatly increase the DC DMV experience for customers who use smartphones and tablets. This initiative embraces the agency’s ‘Skip the Trip’ strategy by encouraging District residents to use technology to simplify their lives and visit DC DMV on their schedule at their convenience,” said DC DMV Director Lucinda Babers.

Rob Mancini, OCTO Chief Technology Officer added the agency used cutting-edge- responsive design - technology in developing the ability for DC DMV customers to use these transactions from mobile devices. “District residents will notice they don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom in and out to see and perform the transactions. Additionally, the menu is user-friendly. Navigation takes place with a tap of the finger.”
