License Designations

DC DMV offers a number of distinct designations you can get on your license or identification card during a DC DMV transaction that will be reflected on your credential.

If you are an eligible, US citizen or permanent resident male between the ages of 18 and 26, DC DMV will register you with the US Selective Service for military service (once you turn 26 years old, you are no longer eligible for selective service enrollment). You may choose to opt out of registering through the DC DMV driver license application process. The waiver form to opt out of the automatic DC DMV process is available at the link below:

You may decide to become an organ and tissue donor (you may also make a tax deductible monetary donation to the DC Organ Donor registry). Information is available at the link below:

You can select the Veteran designation (if you are eligible). DC DMV offers a special license designation to honorably discharged service members. More information is available at the link below:
