You cannot pay for a trip permit with cash. DC DMV accepts:

• Contactless/Digital Wallet Payments
• Credit cards: Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express
• Money order: payable to DC Treasurer
• Verified check: payable to DC Treasurer

Please note -

• Beginning December 15, 2025, the DC DMV will assess a 2.5% service fee to all debit and credit card transactions completed online, through the mobile app, and in-person. The agency’s online payment platforms will accept ACH/electronic check payments with no service fee added.

Check Verification

All checks received by DC DMV will be reviewed for the following items:

• Date
• Address and phone number
• Payable to DC Treasurer
• Signature or endorsement
• Amount
• Transaction confirmation number of the trip permit receipt

A $65 penalty will be imposed per dishonored or returned check. No refunds will be authorized.
