Due to the Code Purple Air Quality Alert, DC DMV closed its Inspection Station, located at 1001 Half Street SW at 10 am. Customers who planned to visit the inspection station today because their inspection stickers are expiring will be given a five-calendar day extension to renew. DC DMV’s Service Centers will remain open during normal business hours. Many of DC DMV services can be completed online or via the mobile app, allowing customers to “skip-the-trip.”

On February 5, the Georgetown DMV Service Center experienced a significant water main break. Due to flooding impacts, the Georgetown DMV Service Center will remain closed to the public until further notice. DC DMV's services will remain available at our other locations, online and via our mobile app.

To Obtain a Trip Permit

If your vehicle travels into and through the District of Columbia and meets the criteria for an apportioned vehicle, you must display an apportioned tag or secure a trip permit before entering the District. Motor carriers, chartered buses, chartered shuttle buses and other vehicles that fall under the definition of apportionable vehicles, but are not apportioned or fully registered in the District of Columbia, may obtain a trip permit for a fee, if required. If your vehicle is not in compliance, the owner/operator is subject to a $500 fine.
