
Violations and penalties are added if you do not adhere to the rules and regulations of the ISA Program:
Violations
An individual may be in violation of the ISA program requirements if they engage in the following conduct or actions:
- Has the ISA system installed in a vehicle with an expired or invalid registration.
- Removes the ISA system without prior approval from the DC DMV’s director.
- Operates a vehicle that was not listed in the application filed under § 313.5 and approved by DC DMV.
- Operates a vehicle with knowledge that the ISA system is not installed or functioning properly and accurately.
- Tampers with, bypasses, damages, removes or renders the ISA system inoperable, or allows another individual to tamper with, bypass, damage, remove or render the ISA system inoperable.
- Fails to obtain the required SR-22 high risk insurance.
- Fails to abide by the terms and conditions of the participant’s agreement with the approved certified service provider.
- Fails to maintain proof of financial responsibility.
- Participates in any other act or use of the ISA system that poses a threat to public safety.
Penalties
The following penalties shall be applied for violations incurred while enrolled in the ISA program:
- DC DMV may terminate a participant from the Intelligent Speed Assistance program for any violation listed in § 313.9.
- Instead of terminating a participant from the Intelligent Speed Assistance program for a violation listed in § 313.9, DC DMV may require the participant to serve an additional 60 days in the program for the partcipant’s first violation, 90 days for the participant’s second violation, and 120 days for each subsequent violation.
- The additional period set forth in subparagraph (b) shall extend the time the Intelligent Speed Assistance program beyond the revocation period.
- Early withdrawal or voluntarily ending participation in DC DMV’s ISA Program or if a driver is terminated from the program will result in an additional one year revocation of driving privilege and the suspension of all vehicle registrations related to the enrollment of the program for a minimum of one year, but not to exceed the revocation period of the applicant’s privilege to operate a motor vehicle.
