Teen Driver Information

Yes, we know you are itching to get that driver license, and we’re here to help and make sure you know all the rules of the road—to keep you, and everyone on the road with you, safe.

Getting your driver license can be one of the most important, and exciting, steps in your teen years. But DC DMV wants to make sure you understand the seriousness of it, too…you may be responsible for the lives of others on the road and in your car—and for your own, as well.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for US teens, accounting for more than one in three deaths in the 16 to 19 age group. Among teen drivers, those most at risk are male teens, teens driving with teen passengers, and any newly licensed teen driver.

DC DMV’s Graduated License Program (GRAD) permits novice drivers (16 to 21 years of age) to safely gain driving experience before they obtain full driving privileges. More information on the GRAD program is available at the link below:
