WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Director Lucinda M. Babers of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced effective Friday, August 14, Department of Motor Vehicles Brentwood Service Center, located at 1233 Brentwood Road, NE will permanently close operations.
Residents and DMV customers are encouraged to utilize DMV Online Services and the three other DMV Service Centers for driver and vehicle services located at: Georgetown Park Mall (3270 M Street, NW); Penn Branch Shopping Center (3220 Pennsylvania Ave., SE); and Southwest (95 M Street, SW). The closure of Brentwood, the smallest of DMV’s four service centers, will save District taxpayers $1,648,000 in FY2010 alone.
“We are redirecting registration and renewal services online and by mail, which increases efficiency and reduces costs for the city,” said DMV Director, Lucinda Babers. “The DMV is constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance residents’ transaction experiences and streamline services.”
The DMV provides services including, driver/identification, vehicle, adjudication and general transactions online. Using these services, customers can "skip the trip" to DMV offices and conduct business with DMV wherever and whenever they choose. Additionally, the DMV has added secure “dropboxes” to each of its locations for vehicle registration renewals.
Starting in May, customers were notified by both U.S. Mail and e-mail of the upcoming changes in registration renewal and the Brentwood Service Center closure. In addition, DMV placed vertical standing banners near the entrances and information desks of all six DMV service locations.
