(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Today the Mayor announced the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) was recently notified of two awards from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). AAMVA, founded in 1933, is the North American organization charged with developing model programs in motor vehicle administration, law enforcement and highway safety. The association serves as a liaison with other levels of government and the private sector, and its development and research activities provide guidelines for more effective public service.
The first award is an AAMVA International Customer Service Enhancement Award in the team category. DC DMV won this award for our Adjudication Services’ team implementation of the ability to submit adjudication requests online. The team was composed of Wanda Butler, Adjudication Services Administrator, Cassandra Claytor, Chief Hearing Examiner, Darnell Fountain, Hearing Support Manager, Richard Prunchak, Quality Program Officer and Jeff Frank, ACS, A Xerox Company, Program Manager.
Often, due to mail delays, customers are frustrated when their adjudication requests are rejected due to not being received timely. Therefore, the team’s goal was to create a solution for customers to not have to rely on mailing in an adjudication request; instead, customers have an additional option of submitting the request online and receiving an email confirmation. Additionally, the customer can also sign up for DMV’s email ticket alert service to receive the adjudication decision by email. This online enhancement, implemented in September 2010, streamlines the adjudication process and comprises 9% of all adjudication requests.
This award will be presented to DC DMV at the AAMVA International Conference in Milwaukee during August 21-24, 2011.
The second award is an AAMVA Regional Public Affairs and Customer Education (PACE) Award in the private/public partnership category. DC DMV won this award for the innovative collaboration of HIV testing at the Penn Branch service center with the Family Medical Counseling Service (FMCS) and the DC Department of Health (DC DOH).
Due to the HIV epidemic in the District, on October 5, 2010, FMCS began testing DMV customers at the Penn Branch Service Center. The primary goal is to normalize testing. Not only is this initiative the first of its kind, but it has far exceeded expectations with 3,705 customers tested to date (the annual goal was 3,200). With test kits provided by DC DOH, testing and counseling provided by FMCS, grant funds provided by Gilead Sciences and space and customers provided by DC DMV, this has been a win-win endeavor for all involved in the District’s continued fight against HIV. Additionally, this award highlights the Mayor support and commitment to HIV prevention.
This award will be presented to DC DMV at the AAMVA Region I Conference in Baltimore during July 17-21, 2011.
