Rhode Island Service Center Closure Update

Monday, July 20, 2020

Today, the DC Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) announced the Rhode Island Service Center located at 2350 Washington Place, NE will be closed indefinitely beginning Monday, August 10, 2020. The closure is in response to an increased staffing shortage at the Rhode Island location.

While new appointments are not currently being accepted at the Rhode Island Service Center, DC DMV continues to accept appointments at the agency’s Benning Ridge, Georgetown, and 95 M Street SW service centers. Appointments previously scheduled at the Rhode Island Service Center after August 8 will be honored on the same date and time at other service centers. DC DMV is notifying customers affected by the change.

Additionally, DC DMV has extended the expiration date for all documents expiring March 1 through the duration of the public health emergency, including driver licenses, identification cards, vehicle registrations, inspections, ticket payments and ticket adjudication responses, until 45 days after the health emergency concludes. All driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and vehicle inspections scheduled to expire have been granted a waiver without penalty until DC DMV reopens at full operating capacity.
