To Obtain a Trip Permit

If your vehicle travels into and through the District of Columbia and meets the criteria for an apportioned vehicle, you must display an apportioned tag or secure a trip permit before entering the District. Motor carriers, chartered buses, chartered shuttle buses, and other vehicles that fall under the definition of apportionable vehicles, but are not apportioned or fully registered in the District of Columbia, may obtain a trip permit for a fee, if required. If your vehicle is not in compliance, the owner/operator is subject to a $500 fine.
