All Service Centers, Adjudication, and Deanwood CDL are by "Appointment Only." DMV has extended the expiration date for DLs, IDs, vehicle registrations, inspections, ticket payments and ticket adjudication responses expiring Mar 1, 2020 -Mar 17, 2021 until 45 days after the health emergency ends.

Obtain an Intrastate CDL

DC DMV offers an intrastate CDL that allows drivers to operate CMVs only within the District of Columbia.

To get a DC DMV intrastate CDL, you must be at least 18 years old, you must have a valid NCDL, you must have at least 2 years of driving experience, and you must have a good driving history.

To get a DC DMV intrastate CDL, you must follow all other requirements and steps for obtaining a regular CDL, including eligibility, documentation, testing, and payment of fees, all of which are explained on the pages listed below:

A DC DMV intrastate CDL has certain restrictions:

  • You may operate CMV Class C vehicles only.
  • You may not get endorsements for H (Hazardous Materials), N (Tank), P (Passenger), S (School Bus), and T (Double/Triple Trailer) CMV classes.
